Learning to read without pressure—that's exactly what a special project in Stadtlohn, supported by BEWITAL, makes possible. Together with Hilgenberg Elementary School and St. Otger Library, the project initiator is focusing on dog-assisted reading promotion for elementary school children.
The focus is on therapy dog Karl: he listens patiently, does not correct, and creates a relaxed atmosphere in which children can practice reading at their own pace. Particularly shy or insecure students benefit noticeably from this form of support.
The need is great: according to the IGLU study 2023, one in four children leaves primary school without sufficient reading skills. Projects like this one address precisely this issue and make an important contribution to supporting young people.
