Lennard’s journey at BEWITAL
There’s plenty going on at Plant 1 at BEWITAL in Südlohn-Oeding. Machines are running, production stages mesh seamlessly, and dry food for dogs and cats is being produced. Right in the thick of it: Lennard. He keeps a close eye on the equipment, coordinates with his team and ensures that, by the end of his shift, everything is exactly where it should be – so that, later on, top-quality products end up in the bowls of many pets worldwide.
Today, Lennard is a key member of the team at Plant 1 and is responsible for numerous technical processes during the day shift. However, his journey at BEWITAL began nine years ago with an internship. He found the apprenticeship in process technology for milling and grain processing exciting, but he wanted to experience first-hand what exactly was involved: “I applied for an internship because I wanted to see what the job was really like, which machines you operate and whether the working environment suited me.”
During a previous office internship,he’d quickly realised that sitting at a desk almost all day wasn’t the right fit for him. In production, it felt different. “Here, you’re on the move, working with technology, and at the end you can see what you’ve produced together.”
The work placement led to an apprenticeship as a process engineer, which in turn led to a permanent role – and, step by step, his responsibilities grew. Today, the 26-year-old helps ensure that production runs smoothly and keeps an eye on the bigger picture – even when things don’t go to plan.
“The tasks are more complex than many people realise. You have to understand processes and technology, ensure quality, keep track of raw materials and components, and simply work well together as a team. ”
It was precisely this team spirit that Lennard experienced even during his apprenticeship. At BEWITAL, apprentices from production, engineering, logistics and administration get to know one another early on and also gain insights into the other apprenticeship programmes.. Joint apprentice days, apprentice lunches and other events are simply part of the experience.
Lennard’s advice to anyone facing a career choice: “Look left and right. Do work placements, ask questions and visit events such as the ‘Night of Apprenticeships’. Sometimes the career that really suits you is right on your doorstep.”
